Prejudice and stigmatization are not foreign words for the members of AdipositasHilfe Deutschland. As people with the visible disease of obesity, they are exposed to these on a daily basis and know what consequences they can have for those affected.
It is not uncommon for skin diseases such as psoriasis to be brought on by overweight and obesity. A consequence of this stigmatization can be self-stigmatization ("It's all my own fault") or mental health conditions such as depression.
As a self-help and patient organization, AdipositasHilfe Deutschland e.V. pursues very similar goals as the initiative 'In meiner Haut': With education and knowledge transfer, it wants to reduce the numerous prejudices that still exist in many people's minds, to clearly counteract these and to support those affected.
